Did you get codes cleared from computer by a computer. If not try that first. Is the car running rough, any symptoms?

The codes that come from the computer often do not identify a component but most often the circuit that the problem exists in. if you had a code that said cam sensor, is the sensor really bad? You need to pull the sensor and test it to find out. if the sensor is good then you would look at the rest of the system. bad wires? maybe. Corrosion on the pins at the connector? Maybe. In the automotive classes I took, we had to troubleshoot problems like this. We had one car that showed and O2 Sensor voltage low. this causes the car to run rich most of the time. we tested the sensor and it tested fine. where do we look now? to may a long story short the problem was in the wire that connects the o2 sensor to the computer. we replaced that wire and resolved the problem. so you have to look at the whole circuit. not just the code.

You have to reset the light. But "check the engine " light refers to emissions problems in general.
