I know for a fact that he was sleeping with someone else the week of his death, but his autopsy repots showed he had a urinary tract infection. How do men usually get these?

Sorry for your loss....
UTI in men is far more uncommon in men than in women. In women the anatomy of the genitals allows the urinary tract to come into contact with germs from the bowel and cause infection upward this is called ascending infection.
In men the infection is usually due obstruction to urine eg. in old males with prostatic enlargement. If your boyfriend had a period of illness needing hospitalisation/ foley's catheterization then that could cause infection. UTI serious enough to cause death could be a due to bacteria in the blood from another source getting caught in the kidney causing a pus pocket/s in the kidney (renal abcess ) or around the kidney (perinephric abcess) etc.....
Vaginal sex may cause urethritis ( infection in the urethra) but is unlikely to cause full blown UTI in a male.

You don't state what the actual cause of death was on the "Death Certificate". You only say, "boyfriend autopsy report showed he had a urinary tract infection". Was that the contributing factor to his death?.

"Urethritis in men, usually egins with a discharge from the urethra. The discharge contains pus when the genococcal organism is inolved or mucus when other organisms are involed. Other smptoms of urethritis include pain during urination and frequent, urgent need to urinate.

A gonorrheal infectionof the urethra that isn't treated or is inadequately treated can cause a narrowing (stricture) of the urethra. The stricture increaseds the risk of developing urethriatis higher in the urethra and occasionally leads to the formationof an abscess around the urethra.

The abscesscan produce outpounchings from the urethral wall (Urethral diverticula), whichcan also beocme infected.. If the abscess perforates the skin, urine may flow throughthe newly created channel (urethrael fistula).

Hope I have been of some help to you

You would need an antibiotic for a UTI I believe. However if you are pregnant I'm not sure they'll be able to give you one? Perhaps if it gets too bad, you should get to A+E or speak to NHS Direct if you're in UK who will give you advice over the phone! My mum is a doctor's receptionist and she's great with stuff like this! Hope it helps and you feel better soon. Take care of that little one x x

it is not common for men to aquire UTIs. When they do it is most often associated with poor hygiene, a lowered immune system or a secondary infection associated with a STD.

Well, it's not sexually transmitted, if that's what you are looking for. You just get an infection: http://www.drreddy.com/uti.html

It's best to let this go---him and why/how he died.
