well, you have a 1-in-3 chance, which are fairly good odds, and running a background check probably means that you've got it, or else they wouldn't bother running it. be patient though.

Sometimes it takes longer to review applications/resumes. Also there could be a delay with your background check (nothing bad against you, these things happen).
Also, some businesses were closed on Monday so that may have had an effect.
Nevertheless, I would wait until probably 1:30 on Monday to call and ask for an update or some information. And in the event that you don't get the job, don't worry- that just means something better is in the works for you!

Try to give the management some time. They need to have an internal meeting between the HR department and the Hiring Manager. By calling them you are doing more harm than good. It's a weekend, enjoy yourself.
What you should do is to just seek for other opportunities and assumed that you have lost it. Hope for the best but prepared for the worst. By not dwelling on the last interview, you are increasing your chances of getting employed. It doesn't hurt getting more interviews.

Sorry, Edmond - I could not disagree with you more!
I agree that you should call. Don't be a pest, but make it light - "I know that you are working on a lot of things today, but wanted to get back to you. Is there any additional information I can give you to help confirm your decision?"
A company that promises to call by a certain date has a HUGE responsibility. Think about it - the way you are treated now, when you are still developing a relationship, is a good indicator of how you will be treated later, after you are employed.
Do you WANT to work for a company that breaks such a simple promise?
Good Luck!
Tony

Hard to tell; I interviewed for a job and waited over a week after the date they told me they'd let me know... I still got the job.

I see nothing wrong with check on the status of your potential employment. In fact, I think it would show your enthusiasm for the position. Just be polite, and don't call everyday.

Why don't you call them? Reinforce in their mind who you are, and how interested you are in the job.... and this will show them that you care enough to contact them. This may give you an edge over the other candidates.
