This is what I packed (mine was x2 though)

1 housecoat (robe) - the hospital gowns open in the back or the side so if I was stuck wearing one I had my housecoat to throw over so I could walk around and my backside wasnt exposed

2. slippers (or flip flops if your feet are swollen) - hospital floors are extremely disgusting and not very sanitary, have them by your bedside so your able to slip them on, even to go to the bathroom ;)

3. Bedside snacks (granola bars, cookies etc) - once the baby is born you will need to snack between hospital meals if you are breast feeding :) (cheaper to bring your own then to buy in the hospital cafeteria), some hospitals (mine did) have a fridge on the Labor and Deliver floor for new moms to store healthy foods if you are breast feeding

4. hairbrush, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, soap (or body wash)

5. make up. I brought some concealer (lack of sleep causes dark under eye circles) some mascara and lip gloss. I was really tired but it was quick and easy especially since so many people want to take pictures when they come visit, you dont want to look super bad in the photos, trust me :)

6. receiving blankets - the hospital (mine did anyway) was always wrapping my babies up in these scratchy towels, I had brought my own receiving blankets and I wrote onto the little paper that was attached to the hospital basinette that said the last name of the babies "I am wearing my own clothing" That way if the nurses in the nursery changed the baby for some reason my stuff didnt end up in the hospital laundry

7. a few sleepers - the hospital provides sleepers while in the hospital but they are pretty ugly and very much worn. So when I would have vistors I would change them into their own sleepers for pictures and such

8. Going home outfit for baby and mom - something nice to go home in :)

9 Books, word searches, magazines, or even your Baby Book (if doing one) - the hospital is boring. If you are doing a Baby book for your baby, this is a great time to fill stuff in. You can even ask the nurses to do the footprint for you in the baby book :)

10. cell phone and charger - you can make cell phone calls on the labor and delivery floor in most hospitals (its usually the bottom floor or the xray floor that you arent allowed) Just double check with your hospital

11. Laptop (if you have one) - Some hospitals have wireless internet and if they dont, you can still watch DVD's on your laptop (bring some from home) and play solitaire and stuff

12. Some of your own clothing - Probably bring the maternity clothing you wore at the beginning of your pregnancy, its smaller but big enough to accomodate your size after birth

13. Change - for drinks in the vending machine..you can usually get ice water for free or stuff from the cafeteria but if you have a craving for a soda or juice at 9pm when the cafeteria is closed its handy to have change on hand (there were no change machines in my hospital)

14. Camera and extra batteries

When its time to go home, the obvious, Carseats :)

I just had my son 3 weeks ago. I packed a backpack. I put in it, a hygiene bag, something to read (but you won't have the time... pack it just in case), a black pen to fill out the birth certificate information, your going home clothes for you (make sure they're baggy and comfortable), one set of nursing pads (at least), sanitary pads (you'll need at least one for the road), slippers (in case your feet are swollen), a baby diaper bag, the baby's go home outfit, a thin blanket, a thicker blanket, a baby bottle (just to have it), a couple of diapers, a thin package of wipes (they let you take home the leftover diapers and wipes, that the hospital provides you, if your kid has any leftover), probably some baby ointment and don't forget the formula (enfamil with lipil, was always best for my kids... it has the yellow wrapper on it). It sounds like a lot, but it's actually not that much. Don't take in much more than that because they will likely want your ride to bring in the car seat, so they know it's ok. The only other thing you might want, is a credit or debit card, if you want those hospital pictures, but those usually suck. I hope this helped. :) PS- I almost forgot... don't forget the camera like my dad did when I was born. Otherwise, your kid might end up insisting for years, that they were adopted, lol.

If you plan to breast feed bring a nightie or something that buttons open in the front. big a book to read for you or your partner in Canada they let you bring in a disc man or mp3, bring a light snack if you are in early labor and make sure to pack some change for the hospital parking. I have heard some women pack a tennis ball and sponges, you will need a outfit for your baby to come home in as well as one for yourself they say something that fit you at 5-6 months along. also make sure you have your birth plan and all your ID and of course don't forget a house coat and some comfy slippers and a toy for your baby. I will be the first to give my baby a stuffed bear. good luck to you hope I gave you some ideas and some bathroom things and diapers if you don't like cloth because some hospitals use cloth

All I used at the hospital was a camera, a boppy pillow, some videos we had rented, my toiletries, my clothes to go home in, and my babies' clothes to take her home in. With the first two babies I took everything on those lists and didn't use most of it, with my third I just took the stuff I knew I would use. It's kind of a hassle when you are being moved to a new room or when you are going home to have a lot of stuff to worry about. Especially if people bring you gifts and flowers. Most of the stuff you won't really remember to use while you are in labor, you'll be so uncomfortable. And once you have your baby you will be so busy you won't use them then either. Usually the nurses have lots of stuff for you to fill out or videos to watch, the rest of the time you will be taking care of your baby, sleeping, or entertaining visitors.
