If each of you has different phones, each phone has different antenna performance. Some phones do end up working better than others. As far as signal boosting, I don't believe those commercials for signal boosting. I don't believe there is anyway to improve, the individual phone. Your problem may be with a faulty phone or not extending the antenna. If you have a phone with an extendable antenna then it needs to be extended for maximum reception of the signals wavelength. Some phones may even have recalls for faulty receivers. Check with a store.

Line-of-sight to the nearest repeater can affect Signal Strength as well as magnetic Fields,Local radar Systems,WEATHER!!!(That's the major one!).
If you are in a Built up area with no signal take-off point then your signal will be None existent!(Even if the repeater mast is in the Next Street!).

You can buy a cell phone signal booster. Expensive (about $300) but it definitely works.

Do you and your wife have different brands of phones?
