if its a high pityched knocking or "pinking" sound then the problem could be 3fold one is the grade of petrol is too poor , 2 there is a carbon build up in the engine ( service the car changing plugs etc) or 3 the timing is out if after servicing the car the prob is still there get a garage to put it on a dyno they should be able to diagnose it

If you are experiencing a "rattling" sound this is fuel knock or , more accurately pre - ignition.
It is most commonly causedby the low octane gas we are supplied with.
Don't step on the accelerator so hard. When it knocks, try backing off the accelerator a little and see if it stops while still going up hill.
If so a higher octane or a softer touch may help.
This can damage your engine if it knocks continuously.

A rod would knock a all times, I suspect you may a condition that is called piston slap which occurs when the engine is under a load. This condition is caused by faulty ignition timing and/or need for a higher octane gasoline requirement.

just becuz the oil looks fine doesnt mean its still good, you should change it every 3000 miles or three months. also if you have a dirty air filter it can lead to acceleration problems so try changing that.

pinging , otherwise known as death rattle is serious ! if your car is old enough retard the timing a few degrees, if not change your air filter and burn premium gas or use octane boost
