The answer varies according to your locale. In the northeast, it is perfectly acceptable to wear black to a wedding in Autumn, or any other time of year. In fact, a majority of women will be wearing black. Elsewhere, it's somewhat frowned upon. So, if you are anywhere except the northeast, I would recommend a different color. Also, regardless of the location, the mother of the bride or groom should not wear black, it is considered a sign of not approving of the wedding. Happy shopping.

I think it's completely fine if it's an evening/night wedding, and you don't wear a black veil over your face! :) Keep the accessories, hair, and makeup upbeat though. No dramatic smoky eyes or tight buns. Maybe wear a scarf or purse or shoes with a splash of color.
If it's a day wedding though, no black. It's not appropriate anytime of year to wear black to a wedding during the day. Also, if it's a casual wedding...you may not want to go black regardless of the time of day.
By the way...I'm a wedding planner. So, I can tell you that wedding etiquette has changed DRAMATICALLY in the past decade.

Wearing black to a wedding is perfectly fine especially to an Autumn wedding. The little black dress of pantsuit has redefined the terms for the do's and don'ts of wearing black

It is acceptable to wear black to a wedding. However, there are stipulations.
* The wedding should be in the evening or at night.
* The style of the dress is in the same realm of suggested dress. (Meaning, floor length if black tie, knee length if cocktail.)
* The dress should be tasteful and not overshadow the bride.
To soften the blow I would pair the black dress with a colorful wrap, jewelry, and shoes if possible.

Yes I thing just about any color is okay. Black is especially appropriate when the wedding is in the evening.
Hope this helps. Enjoy the wedding. :)

Absolutely. Especially to an evening wedding. The only rule is not to out do the bride, everything else goes.

That's tricky.
I guess it's okay if it's dressed up and looks elegant. Make a statement with some bold colored jewelry.
Lighter colors are standard for weddings though. But go with what you feel.

It is okay if you are not a bride. But the bride has to wear a white!
I hope that helps you!!
