Currently, the best PG in the NBA is clearly steve nash. He singlehandedly changed the offensive strategy of the Suns and has turned them into a perennial playoff team. He is the single point guard that can make an offense run all over the court for an entire game, not just for stretches. He provides solid veteran leadership, doesn't cause problems or controversy in the locker room, and spreads the ball around. He is arguably the most creative passer in the league.
If you're going all time, my vote goes to Oscar Robertson. Any player that can average a triple double over the course of a season deserves more respect than he gets. John Stockton and Magic Johnson are very worthy candidates as well, though.
EDIT: interesting steve nash stat...last season, he became one of the few players (maybe even the only one?) to post a .500 FG%, a .400 3PT%, and a .900 FT% for the year. World-class shooter.

Its really hard to answer this question because the question is not clear. Are you asking the best point guard right now or the best to play the point position in the NBA?
Right now, I would have to say Steve Nash for only 2 reasons. MVP last year and the year before.....period!!
Best Point Guard of all time? I would have to say, 2 people gets my vote. MAGIC JOHNSON & JOHN STOCKTON. If you ask me why, just find a way to grab a hold of how these 2 guys played in the NBA. let their stats do the talking.
Next time you guys, be specific with how you right your questions so that people wont have a hard time figuring out how to answer them....thank you!!!

For me its a toss up between Kidd and Nash...Even though Nash is a two time MVP I would say Kidd is better then Nash..When you think of a point guard in this era most people think of Jason Kidd. He is an excellent general on the court and without him the Nets wouldn't be a good team. Best PG of all time is Magic Johnson. When I seen him play it was like a thing of beauty.

I would say Chauncey Billups is better than Nash. Although his shooting is a little worse than Nash (percentage), his shooting where it really counts (clutch performance) is better. They are about equal in leadership skill. Nash is a little better at passing and dribbling and shooting, admittedly, but only by a little. Nash is fast and quick, Billups is strong and sturdy. For the PG position, you would most of the time take someone speedy, no doubt. But on the defensive side, which is just as important as the offensive one, Billups beats Nash totally. Nash is like a hole in the sink on the defensive end. Billups has made two All-defense second teams in these last two years, and is one of the best points and defense, if not the best.

You could go with either Steve Nash or Allen Iverson. Nash is a TWO TIME MVP, but Iverson is third in ALL TIME scoring average...Personally I'd go with Steve Nash. Not only the best passer in the league, maybe the best 3pt shooter too.
PS: Watch out for Chris Paul in the future though.

1. Steve Nash
2. Jason Kidd
3. Chris Paul
4. Baron Davis
Iverson would be #2, IF he is considered a PG... he's not very good AS A POINT GUARD... but he is one of the NBA's better players... no doubt...
