No. Not true at all. Most disturbed individuals are just disturbed.

However, if you turn the phrase around: Creative indivduals are often disturbed, there may be truth in that. You can look in books that address the prominance of bipolar disorder, etc in artistically creative individuals.

Yes I agree. To be creative often requires thinking in a new or different way. "Normal" people might see these individuals as weird or different, or in this case disturbed. Although, how disturbed did you mean? Sometimes, people are mentally ill and they happen to be creative, but they could just as easily be disturbed and good at Mathematics. You can also be creative and not disturbed ! Bill Gates is a great example.

Disturbed individuals are not often creative, but creative individuals are often disturbed. So it's easy to get confused.

The statement is just as valid as the statement "Disturbed individuals are often self-destructive", or "Disturbed individuals are often irrational", or "Disturbed individuals are often in asylums".

In other words, the statement says nothing of consequence.

disagree, i believe disturbed individuals have as much of a chance of being creative as the general population.

I agree. But, creative individulas are often not disturbed. Creativity is a human trait, not one of the disturbed.
