I've noticed esp. in the homework section, lots of people will respond with something like "do your homework" but only one will get removed for "not an answer" while others stay. What's up with that? How is that fair?

It could be that one is removed because someone gives it a bad rating, and then after the rater leaves, other people put that answer up. It's just a guess.

I think there was probably a report of abuse to get the answer removed. No, it is not fair, but my best guess is that is what happened.

I think the ones that get removed are questions that another user has complained about. The squeeky wheel gets the oil.

Tell me about it.

There was a question here as to why a male dog lifts his leg to urinate.

My answer got dinged as (get this) Insulting Other Participants, but it was no different thant he otehrs answers that were given.

Someone got cheesed off.
