No one would ever verify without seeing it in the "flesh". Stick with the big names: Sotheby's, Christies, Phillips, or Bonhams. Not much of a difference among them, other than snobbery. You can email the info and images to them, but without the original in front of them no one worth their salt will give you an estimate or confirm an attribution. Take it to NYC or LA. Pointless using their websites except to send a very general query. They'll reply: we need to SEE it!

Try Sotheby Parke Bernett. They specialize in name artists if you have such a piece and are quite knowledgeable, not simply auctioneers. I don't know what kind of success you might have locating him or if he is still with the firm but I've read an old article on Tobias Meyer, he's their premier auctioneer/appraiser. Hope this helps.
