I am intrigued by this series of movies, but I don't want to see the gore and stuff. From what I understand, he takes heathens and gives them a choice between life and death in a life threatening situation. Is that right? What are the themes behind Saw that you notice? I wish they would come out with the TV acceptable version, but I don't see that happening.

Thanks!!

I think the theme is that he is trying to get people to appricate their lives more. He started doing this kind of work after he was diagnosed with a untreatable form of cancer and he was told he was gonna die and then he saw how everyone around him just took their lives for granted and wanted to show them not to take it for granted.

The meaning is to get people to appreciate there lives more, and too see how far they would go just to save them or the ones they love most.

The guy behind it all is dying of cancer and had tried to kill himself by driving off a cliff...he lived, obviously(walked away with out a scratch). That made him realize that his body could live through the trama of driving off a cliff but it could not fight the cancer on the inside, so he set out to make people who take their lives for granted, appreciate their gift of life. However, the trick is that he will put people "unworthy of the life they were given" in certain situations, "tests" that will drive them to the extreme and they will have to choose between life and death. In order to survive his "test" you must listen very carefully and do exactly as he says. Ex.) He takes a girl who tired to commit suicide by slitting her wrist and puts her head in this reverse bear trap. Once she sits up, a pin is pulled out and the timer starts. She must hurry over to the "dead" body on the floor and somewhere in its intestants is the key that will remove the contraption off her face. She must do it before the timer goes off or it will snap open and tear her face apart. As she gets to the body and lifts up the shirt, it has a giant ? mark written on it. She is given a scalpel. As she goes to cut into the "dead body" it goans and it is appearent that this person is very much alive and has been drugged...Now she must choose...To either kill this person by slicing them open and finding the key among its insides or to do nothing and have the contraption snap her face off. She chooses to live....

The man behind this ,"Jigsaw" also takes people who dont appreciate the things in life that should be most important. For example he takes a man, who is a doctor, that cheats on his wife. In Saw2 he takes a cop's son, whom the cop completely ignores and puts him in house with convicts that the cop had falsely convicted them by evidence that he had planted. Its kind of hard to explain w/o you actually seeing the movie, but ur right. It is intensly gorry and not easy to stomache. But its a good and twisted movie for horror flick junkies, as myself. Hope this helped.

There is no big moral theme. If you don't like gore, don't watch the movie. It was dumb.
