What things do I need to get an apartment? example: deposit, proof of employer, etc.

You need to start saving for a deposit. Some places will waive a deposit if you have great credit, but Im guessing that is not the case on account you seem pretty young. Honestly its just money. Throw money at them and they would let a child Molester live there. A deposit is usually first months rent worth. So start saving. You would probably need a proof of employer also but they will give you all the necessarry documents for that. (Its sounds more in depth than it really is). You may also need refrences but thats the easy part. Just list some of your friends and get them to rave about how great you are.

In addition to the deposit, you will need to have your first month's rent. You will probably also need deposits for utilities in your name (electricity, gas, phone) You also need to consider furnishings, unless you find a furnished apartment. (dishes, food, cleaning supplies, linens, pots & pans, which don't usually come with a furnished apartment). If you investigate sharing an apartment with some friends you can share all these expenses.
Check out craigslist.com for rentals in the area you are looking to move to.

You will need a deposit, usually half a months rent to a full month's rent. And then you will need whatever the landlord asks of you as far as a background check

It's a good idea to contact a realtor. Don't try it all on your own, b/c more than likely you will not get the best thing you need...just tell the realtor what you are looking for and then he/she will guide you along the way!
