this algorithm ight help u
take user name and password frm the text field
run a query into data base which compares those credentials with data base
if it matches with data base
=USER LOGIN
else
Reamain on that same page

Well, If your website is hosted on a Linux web server, You can use the htaccess file to grant access to the people who has the correct user names and passwords only.
