Go to the county clerk's office and ask to see the "green sheets." These are property transfer documents and will tell you who the previous owners were and what real estate firm handled previous sales. You can then request copies of the transactions from the firms (they do not have to provide them, but you can ask) and you can try to contact previous owners.

Also try the county tax assessor's office, which will have records of any improvements or additions.

Start out by seeing the Register of Deeds at your county government. They should have records of who owned your house in the past and when it was built. Then you can contact your local historical society, or a local history museum. They may have some information about some of the families who have lived there. You can also try your library and look at old phone and address directories, these can offer information about who lived at a certain address and even what those people did. Some libraries may even have newspaper files which have been indexed enough to look up certain people or addresses.

You could go to your Realtor, they would probably know something,
internet search on the address, or the land it sits on.
and one of the other answers, I saw some good ideas.

Good luck, happy hunting.
