I was a Pizza Hut manager and college drop out. I got my licenses to be a Stock Broker and had tons of brokerage houses offer me jobs. Ameriprise will refund the amount it cost to get licensed when you pass your tests but after that quit. I hated the culture there. I hear Merrill Lynch has a good training program. The down side is you have to start at low pay doing telemarketing while you learn the business. It probably takes about 3 years to be successful IE. 50k+. The brokers I work for have the best jobs. They work 30 hours a week. (The amount of time the stock exchange is open.) Make 100k and have off all holidays and anytime their kids need them. I apprentice with a guy who has been doing it for 20 years and he teaches me the business and I do menial tasks for him. I plan to take on clients in the next year. Once you are licensed you can work for yourself immediately but it's best to have someone help you learn at first. I don't know if this is the kind of job you had in mind but I recommend it.

You need to think about the big three: Law, Medicine, and Business. Of those three, you can get started the quickest in business. If you enjoy people and like to listen, a career in sales can earn you a significant income. For example, if you like investing, you can become a stock broker... some easily earn six figures once they are established in the business. Of course, you can always take the entrepreneur path... decide what you love and build a business around it. I was recently in Napa Valley and the balloonists there earn quite a bit to take tourists on a hot air balloon ride... again, they love to balloon, and built a business on their passion. You can do the same. Good luck!
