Not true at all.As of now, if you have Vietnamese passport then all you need are green card and VN passport.If you don't have VN passport then you need Reentry permit with green card.
Immigration law changes more often than you change clothes,you need to check with them before you go.Good luck.
Note:Reentry permit takes over a year to get.

It is best to check with Immigration. You don't want any problems, but it doesn't seem to make sense
