I can claim to have a favorable voice when singing. and people likes it when I talk on the phone. sadly, I hate to do singing on karaoke machine, or whenever requested to sing in a party, due to throat itching. a slight vibration of my vocal chord triggers an aggravating stupid itchy and embarassing cough resulting an equally embarassing show...

Try using the stuff for snoring. It has MSM and it may help prevent it and you can easily use a squirt in your throat as needed it's available over the counter. I think it's called "Snore Ease" or "Snore Stop". I think the idea is the MSM stops the tickle and vibration of snoring. MSM is also good for throats. You can buy the powdered variety and make your own gargle or throat spray. Have you tried warm salt water as a gargle? That's cheap and easy to find.

Peppermints. Keep some handy and suck on them often.. It sounds like your throat is dry. The secretions from sucking the mints when lube them.

Wait did that sound right? Well you know what I mean. My church passes them out to the choir members so that before and after they sing there throat won't be irritated.

suck on a lemon right before you sing, a friend in a band does this, says it helps his throat.
