I would recommend minoring in journalism and majoring in something else like a foreign language. The main thing you need to learn for TV news are journalism ethics issues. All of the other stuff: writing, voice, etc. comes with working in the field or getting an internship. If you get an internship, I recommend finding a mid to small market station(anything under market 30). Stations in that market size will actually let you get your hands on the toys instead of getting someone their morning coffee. And the biggest thing I can tell you is be receptive and apply yourself. It's a wonderful business that gets better everyday. Good luck.

Communications courses. Try also getting a minor in performance thearte arts so you become familiar with stage presence, voice, lighting, your best look and the whole feel of a set.

You can get all of your general education done at a community college and then transfer into a university. That way you can focus entirely on your craft at the college level.

Journalism or Communications.

Journalism, definitely, but you could also think about a minor in communications or theater (getting up and speaking in front of people). Also, any background in history or sociology would be good for being an actual reporter.
