i've been having trouble reinstalling the new distributer in my "91" Caprice Classic. The Balancer pointer is a aftermarket piece and is'nt true.Does the valance come off for a better angle to put the shaft back in ?

1: remove valve cover on the # 1 side 2:bump engine so piston is @ tdc, watch intake valve open and close, if exhaust opens go 'round again , #1 intake closed piston @ tdc your ready to install 3:start the dist. in the hole with the rotor pointing at the plug wire behind # 1 , make shure that the oil pump drive will line up because the gear on the cam will rotate the rotor as the teeth mesh. take your time , have lots of patience you should get close enough to fire, if you have no oil pressure you've lost the oil pump drive shaft (i burnt a motor that way ) good luck
