I live near San Francisco, CA. I am looking for a "weekend getaway" in November. Any place but SF. Any suggestions?

The are a lot of good choices. But if I had to go with just one, I pick the Monterey Peninsula.

You have three wonderful small towns (Monterey, Pacific Grove & Carmel-by-the-Sea), the best of the California Missions, a fine aquarium, Pt. Lobos (my favotite meeting of land and sea) and the beautiful coast line to the south towards Big Sur.

Take a look at these photos. In each case click nest in the upper right to continue the treat.

Do the weekend in Napa Valley. November is around crush time and the air smells of grapes. The vines are bright red/yellow. Stop at V. Sattui Winery on Hwy.29 at south end of St. Helena for a picnic lunch from their GREAT deli and free wine tasting. My wife and I "getaway" here about 4-5 times a year and it never gets old. You'll not waste a lot of time getting there since it is close to S.F. but you will feel like you are in another part of the world.

Wine country B&B, Half Moon Bay, Mendocino coast, Sierra foothills, spa week-end in Calistoga, Big Sur & Carmel by the Sea -- so many choices and so little time.

Take a drive down to Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. They have a great night life.
