If they are a bit warm at the bottom and cold at the top, your radiator needs bleeding. When the heating's off, go round and use that little key on the ends of the radiators to open the valve and let out the air. Stop when liquid starts coming out.

Find the highest point and bleed the radiators. You should have a valve on the top of them, that will take the air out.

(Heated water will release air that is trapped with in the water system and needs to be "bled out").

Also, make SURE that your circulating pump is on! Check the circuit breaker to be sure its on, or the fuse is ok. Or, you wont get hot water to circulate through out the system, and it will be hot down in the boiler and cold upstairs.

You dont need a plumber for this.

I wish you well..

Above are right with the bleeding thing but if they are completely cold you could have an airblock which you would need a plumber for. Or like ours last year, if you have thermostats on them and you have had them switched off all summer the pins in them seize up or something to do with them so you need to get new ones.

it sound like a divertor valve problem. these valves seaze over time where the heating has not been used for some time which is usually around summer time. depending on what boiler you have you may get away with manually switching the divertor valve manually or giving it a knock with a small hammer that should free it. look for the manual which may show where the divertor valve is. a new one would cost no more than 110.00 plus vat.
the other thing it could be is the central heating pump get that checked they usually seaze too.

tip next time during summer let your heating run for 15 min every couple of days.good luck

You need to bleed the radiators with the radiator key , you turn the key very very slowly just to enable a small amount of air to be released from the radiator, keep turning key slowly until the hissing sound stops :0)

Gunge in the system has gathered during the summer in the pump.
Remove the brass screw on the end of the pump, insert an electricians screwdriver , locate slot and give it a flick either way , it should START

Could be a seized pump. Get an estimate from a plumber before it gets REALLY cold.

you need to find you radiator keys and bleed the, these means gettin rid of all the air in them, make sure you take a tissue though cos once all the air has come out sometimes you get hot black water coming out that will stain you carpet and clothes.
