The NLS Framework for teaching sets out teaching objectives for Reception to Year 6 to enable pupils to become fully literate. It also gives guidance on the Literacy Hour in which this teaching will take place. This document is a reference point for day-to-day teaching, and help for headteachers and governors as they plan and manage the improvement of literacy in their school.

You'll find all you need to know (and more!) on www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primary/publications/literacy/nls_framework/ - 30k -

i have just started teaching assistant course too!
does that mean you need to know about numeracy strategy too? as they both same idea i think, your school should have a copy of it all, but failing that i think you could get copies from dfes website?
it is the governments strategies involving how to teach kids numeracy and literacy, for eample children are taught phonics, which i am having trouble with!
thats what i am looking into anyway, i haven't got round to it yet, best get off here and look myself!

good luck on the course :)

It is the recommendations/guidelines laid down by the Government for schools to follow when teaching literacy. It covers reading, writing, listening and speaking and is a prescribed way of delivering the daily lessons. You can ring the HMSO and order a copy if you are not already working at a school - if you are, they should have one for you to look at.
