AVAST is an excellent program and will provide great protection.
When it come to Antispy programs you want to have at least three programs providing active full time protection. AdAware SE free does not provide this. It is great for doing scans and removal after you are infected.
Windows Defender Beta 2, Spybot Search & Destory (Tea Timer turned on) and SpywareBlaster are a great start for full time protection. All three can be downloaded here:

I recommend you download AdAware SE and keep it on your computer to do regular scans. As the name implies it strength is removing adware programs.
Ewido (now called AVG Antispyware) has a 30 day trial of the full function program. After the trial period it will only function as AdAware does. You can still update manually and use it for scans and removal. It is the best general Trojan remover.
You can get these a File Hippo also.

Avast is one of the very best free antivirus programs that actually works 100% of the time. Avast free version is the same as their corporate version. They require you to fill out a short form, so the can send you a free key as the free home version or corporate version both require registration keys. When you receive your key via email, just install the key and the email address that you used. The key for the free version is good for one year. After one year you just request a new key.
Updates are automatic daily, with a male voice that come on along with a pop up from the tray saying "Avast has installed or latest updates, or something to that affect.
Scans memory, drive, files, folders and favorites.
Ad-Aware Se Personal is an excellent free program. This company has been around long before anybody ever thought of coming out with antispyware. So they are far ahead of all antispyware software in state of the art technology and detection of spyware.

I use both in my computer and have never been hit with a virus in nine years. Plus all spyware is detected and removed.
Important info. You can only use one antivirus program. If you try an use two you will have serious conflict. You can use two or three antspyware program without conflict.
Here is another antispyware program I use that is free if you don't purchase their upgrade. The upgrade only has a guard in the tray, and you get automatic updates. The guard is of no real value in my opinion, and you just have to update on a manual basis daily. This program scan all 175,000 objects in my pc.
some antispyware programs will find spyware that is missed by another spyware program. So it a good idea to use two or three antispyware. Again only one antivirus program.
And don't forget your Microsoft Windows critical updates that come out every second Tuesday of each month. Either set your pc for auto downloads or go to start=windows updates. And Microsoft will scan your system for critical updates. If any are required you can download direct from their server. Plus always reboot after removing a virus or spyware from you pc.

I have heard alot of good things about Avest. But AVG is free too and is good. As for spyware scanners im gona tell you truth some pick up some spyware that others missed. So I would get two spyware programs. The one you have is good but get spybot aswell. And keep them updated spyware and anti virus software

Yes, I strongly recommend Avast! for virus protection and Ad-Aware is great for spyware removal. Good choice on both of them.
