If you rented a movie and were late returning it and then you died would someone you knew or a family member have to pay the late fee???

It would be a valid debt. If more than one person is on the account, remaining people would be liable. If decedant was the only person, the video store could file a claim with the decedant's estate for payment of the debt. The executor of the estate is responsible for payment of all valid claims , and would pay the amount assuming there are sufficient funds for doing so. If there were not enough funds, the video store debt could be clained as an uncollectable debt for tax purposes by the business.

Well, it's not worth killing yourself to get out of late fees... They can't be that bad!!! Just kidding... No, though. As long as you are the only person on the rental account, you are the only person responsible for the timely return of that movie. Now, on a shared account with your sister, for example, it's different: her problem is your problem... Then when she watches "Bring It On" in her room and LOSES it... YOU get to pay $40 in late fees... Not like that ever happened... LOL... ♥

no....they just delete the account with the late fees....or at least we did when i worked at Hollywood Video.
