I have had the mirena coil in for 7 months now it has been fine. I have just had reflexology done on thursday. The reflexogist said there is a chance my coil could come out or im due a heavy period. Im in pain and unsure what wil happen, that is why im asking if any one has heard of that happening.

i have my second mirena coil as the first one did expel itself during a heavy period - it wasn't extremely painful, just uncomfortable and my partner actually 'explored' and found it. It isn't particularly common, and they say that if it is going to happen it will in the first 6 months, but i had had it in longer. Can you feel the strings? it may be that it has moved, if you feel like it is period pain but you get no bleed best get it checked, although to reassure you a bit, i have my second one in and it is fine, i have had it 8 months now and i still get very achy sides and back as if i am going to have a period but i haven;t. but check for your strings and if you can't feel them then for your own peace of mind go and get it checked. If you feel like replying, have you gained weight and have mood swings, i do and wondered if it was connected to the coil. let me know if you wish, take care and hope the reflexologist hasn't scared you too much. (also remember - reflexologists are only human, they too can make mistakes, so relax xx )

No, I don't think it will come out, your reflexologist probably detected it because it's an implant. Go check with your doctor if you are worried. I have been using the mirena coil for 7 years (on 2nd one) and it really if the best one on the market.

i had the coil to, and i never heard of that! but if u are unsure u should get it checked out with a doc... i felt that mine was uncomfortable, but that was pshycological, cos u cant feel them... might be that u got stomache pain from the reflexology?

I would say "if in doubt check it out". I work in gynaecology and have only come across expelled coils rarely and usually within a couple of months of insertion. I am dubious about the reflexologist telling you it would fall out. If it does would you let me know? would be worth looking into.

It would be very unusual for a coil to come out on its own but it is possible. See your doctor, no sustained pain should be left without checking!

I have never heard of that. I was told if it was going to come out it would happen in the first few months.
