I was a die hard g n r fan! Axl rose was sooo cute! Slash was so cool! I named my daughter after one of their songs lol. I liked Metallica too. However, their genre was different in those days. Metallica was very hardcore. It wasn't even played on the radio. Basically, from a girls view g n r band members were just so cool and good looking. While metallica wasn't really worried about the 'show'. People that attended their concerts were 'rockers' but different kinds. At metallica concerts you'd find the guys with long uncombed hair and ripped jeans, girls looked the same way lol. At a GnR concert you would find guys wearing tight leather pants and rock tee's. And the girls wore their spandex and rock tees, more sexy looking. You found all kinds at GNR, but not at metallica. They're followers were considered more hardcore and usually consisted of more adolescent boys. JMO from someone that was there and done that. Stay cool, rockers rule! :)

To me it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges, but I'd have to say I liked GNR better because a lot of their songs were a little less hard-core than Metallica's stuff (for example, November Rain), and I'm sort of a pop chick who only dabbles in metal occasionally. I did see Metallica in concert though and they rocked!

It all depends on whether you are looking at it from a current perspective or how you felt in the past.
In the past, Metallica surpassed GnR for thrash power and gravitas. This was "serious" metal.
Now? Maybe it's because I got old, but classic GnR holds more lasting appeal.
Maybe it's because I can kinda sing along to GnR, but headbanging sure hurts my neck and my throat can't take that hoarse shouting, now.

I loved Metallica... Until Lars stepped out from behind his drums and started speaking. that... and when they decided to put a full orchestra behind "Am I evil and Blitzkreig." That stunt had money all over it!
He is an as*shole and should sit down, shut up and just drum!
I loved Gun's and Roses... As long as the band could be propped up well enough to keep time. Axl was an as*shole too though...

Metallica
They were a lot heavier and like.....more mayhem and chaos.
GNR has a lot of great songs, but maybe not as powerful and trashers like Metallica ones.
Today, I hate Metallica but I still dig Guns.

I'm going to go with Metallica; Axl Rose and Slash are a joke. Then again, so is Lars Ulrich, but I have to go with them by default because they've at least put out one good album.
