Why is it that a prominent Canadian Liberal (Ignatieff) says Israel commits war crimes...?

...when this is the same party that has constantly accused the Conservatives as being hopelessly racist?

And Ignatieff wants to LEAD the Liberals?

I remember one Liberal saying not so long ago that only Holocaust-deniers vote Conservative. And yet the Liberals feel free to attack Israel.

There is a difference between being racist and criticising the policies and behaviors of a country. That's the problem, instead of dealing with the problem, people label you a racist if you criticize Israel.

Ignatieff ha some liberal ideas that do not correspond to the run of the mill thought of many liberals. for example, he was a supporter of the US invasion of Iraq. He argued that Saddam's conduct against Shia's & Kurds was enough to justify the invasion. Ignatieff has always been a big suppporter of the rights of the oppressed. Israel's use of cluster bombs and the heavy handed treatment of Lebanon & Palestine without regard for innocent civilians probably has led him to speak out against Israel. Canadian liberal politics is more closely allied to the European liberals than to the American version of liberalism.
