you don't need a doctor or pills, you need to put it in your mind that you can and will do it , use the power of your mind to over come then tell your doctor he/she will be really grateful along with friends and relation's, get started now by going to the shop and proving to your self that you can ,do this and any other thing that will set you fee, look at the effect of the world if in doubt

I'm sorry you feel that way, it sounds awful ! Depression is very real, and more people ( especially the medical profession) should take it more seriously !
However, not all doctors are the same, perhaps you need to change your GP or ask to be referred to a specialist, maybe you are someone who may benefit from some form of counselling , someone needs to find the root of the problem before you can be helped . Pills are not always the answer, although they may help at times .
Look into it a bit more, there is help available out there because so many thousands of people suffer just like you, if you're not happy with your doctor then you need to find help elsewhere . Don't be scared to go somewhere else, it's your life and you cannot live it like that, not this day and age .
I really hope that you find some help, please do look for it, a friend of mine was in exactly the same position as you, got a second opinion and is now feeling much better, you CAN do it, honest !
If they won't help you, you must help yourself . Good luck .

Sometimes depression can't be helped if we always look at things in a negative light. When we think on what is good, right, lovely etc. we can get past it but when we always dwell on the negative we can't be helped. And sometimes the depression comes from a root source. If it isn't faced or dealt with all the drugs in the world won't help. Also, sometimes it is a chemical imbalance and can't be corrected with anti depressants. You say you are seeing a doctor but is he a psychatrist? Someone who can help you deal with what may be the source of your depression? Medications can only do so much and much of the times medications have more side affects then we need.
I think that your doctors do give a dang or they would not give you the medications anymore. If you have had depression for 19 years then I am sure they have probably given you just about everything they can give you.
Also, if you are taking these medications and you are drinking any alcohol with these meds you are negating them because alcohol is a depressant.
Find one good thing to day and dwell on it. Be thankful for it.

I had the same problem for a long time as well. Most Drs I saw were not interested, thought I was making it up, etc. It took a long time and a lot of nerve but I found a different Dr and they were so much help I couldn't believe they were in the same profession. Some Drs out there do give a sh*t you just have to persevere and find the right one!

If you need to be on drugs then you need to be there's no question. I'm trying to come off mine right now and it's hell but I'm glad I went on them. I was finally found the right ones when I found the right Dr. Shop around you've got the right to!

im lucky as far as your would think cos i've only been depressed the last year or so, mines due to another health problem, but so far i've tried 3 diff anti-depressants and i dont no how many sleeping tablets.

i've quit takin anti-depressants now as the last ones made me a b***h from hell, and the latest sleepin tablets im on give the most horrible side affects, i hate it.

im considering trying herbal remedies as i've heard they can be good, i recommend you try the same, but i still dont understand the doctors, u go in tell them ur symptons the haw and ha then they say try these or theres nothing we can do, its jus s**t and i ended up takin mymum wit me one day cos i was so upset that the doctor wasnt listening she came with me cos she was fed up with the state i was in and spoke to the doc for me, but it still didnt help, all the blinking doctor said was that i needed some sleep.

i hope u get on ok and try the herbal stuff, apparently they hav less side affects if any, gd luck xx

Sometimes it's a chemical thing, which physicians understand - they can prescibe something and it'll fix it. however, if it's not a chemical problem, a pill won't fix it. Physicians (medical doctors) are not trained to be psychiatrists. They are usually overworked (12 hours a day 5 days a week), and have to pay outragious liability insurance rates to stay in practice. Find someone to talk to. Your doctor can actually probably recommend a good psychotherapist (if, for no other reason, to avoid you, but hopefully to help you). If your insurance doesn't cover it, find someone else you can talk to (try a pastor /priest /rabbi /whetever). Or, try to figure out what is making you depressed, and change it (a bad relationship, a bad job, classes you don't enjoy, etc.)

I totally understand and it's sad, but true - drugs are not the solution to depression or any other health condition. All drugs are synthetic, they mask the symptoms and they have awful side effects.
However, there is hope. There is a new patented, scientific technology that is totally natural. It has been shown to help the body overcome almost every health condition, by supporting correct body function at a cellular level. I have friends with severe mental health challenges, includes depression, bipolar and schizophrenia, who all had noticeable results within weeks, and are now well. Why? Because the cause of the problem was addressed. To learn more about making a difference in your health call 1800-793-0299 ext. 13797 or go to www.glyco.com/iragoodman

Ask to be referred to a different psychiatrist. You're perfectly entitled to say that you're not happy with the treatment you're receiving and would like a second opinion. Don't forget though, that the treatment of depression is not an exact science and medication that works well with one person, may not suit another. The correct meds can only be found by a process of elimination and this is frustrating for you and the doctor. Good luck for the future.

ok. on the off chance that I will sound like a complete prick in your eyes... did you ever think that depression is something one must deal with rather than cure???

I suffered from depression most of my childhood years and even into my late-teens and early twenties... I have a late bout of it a few years ago and it was sheer hell.

But I sat down and worked out what was wrong each time and why the depression was affecting me.

The root cuase was discovered each time and I found a way to remove the root cause to prevent it causing further harm... that doesn't mean I killed anyone or anything, just means I cut some thing ahnd people out of my life and got on with it until such a time as I felt strong enough to face those things head on WITHOUT feeling any oppression, depression or otherwise disconcerning feelings.

Some advice would be, stop seeign your GP, book a time with a councillor, as in a person that can take an external perspective to your situation and extenuating circumstances, work with that person to find some ways of beating your depression through eliminating root causes, sometimes this means workign with others that might be inflicting the root cause of your depression on you.

this is not a joke, it's very serious and you do have to deal with depression more often that you like, I mean that people in general have to do this.

Personally, fighting depression is something I see everyone doing each day of their lives, but seek support if you don't already yahve it, and if it is there, take it, lean on it and gain strength from it... odn't let the depression control you...

I'm proud to say that depression is something we as people can actually get rid of ourselves, it's a state of mind, not an ilness, GP's can't solve it, but nor can others, otehrs can only work with YOU to resolve the issue, ultimately it comes down to you to beat it... no one else.

Medication is not always the answer, it masks the symptoms and does nothing to treat the cause. Ask for councelling it is really helpful.
I was on a very high dose of drugs for my depression but managed to come off them slowly once the root cause of my depression was tackled.
