Unfortunately many people don't spell properly because either they are lazy and don't take the time to check, or they were never taught how to spell properly in the first place. It's a sad day when high-school students cannot write their own homework without relying on the Internet for answers.

spelling is not the thing here... as fast as this moves most just type and post... espacialy those playing the point game... But to get a question noticed and answered in the usual time a question is readaly visible means type fast... personaly I can not spell for squat and I went to school in the 50's... in the school I went to they stopped requireing penmanship and spelling was alowed to be what could be read... this was in 54... the school system I ended up in passed me through to 12th when I could not even write long hand and my printing was terrable... I have suffered the results since... when I do any corespondence I use the computer and spell check... but that is not fool proof and I sometimes can not tell when a word slips through wrong... now every one seems to be using the internet short hand and no one writes any more any way... even in elimentery school they are doing all work on computers... no one spells...thank God I was kicked out of so many classes in HighSchool and sent to the library...otherwise I would never have taught myself how to read...

Unfortunately, spell check doesn't tell people the difference between:
To, Too, and Two
They're, Their, and There
Which and Witch
Capital and Capitol
Insure and Ensure
Affect and Effect
Waste and Waist
Wait and Weight
Seeing the ignorance is really scary.

Boo! hiss!
I agree!
It is scary what passes for education these days.
Spelling well in your language makes your language understandable. Isn't that what we all want from this site-to be understood?
Your tax money is being paid to raise a generation of functional illiterates who ask no questions, just buy, follow trends, and allow the government/business conglomerate to make them and US slaves to Wal-Mart, insurance companies. and scandals.
The one I liked the other day was "What is your most embracing moment? I said spell-check won't help you-try idiot-check!
Hey Idaho--try that little button, and then you don't have to remember as much.

I use the spell check all the time. You would think that people wouldn't want to show their ignorance but evidently that's a stigma that has been removed by the public schools so we can all "feel good" about ourselves. What a shame! (or sham!)

I agree, it really is annoying to be forced to translate the various spellings of what was a standard word.
Even worse, to me, is the use of 'texting' abbreviations here on a computer site. It's NOT NECESSARY, KIDS!

Unfortunately a lot of people now use "text talk" to spell because it shortens the words they will have to type.

I know exactly what you mean! I am very anal about these types of things anyways, but some of the things people write are just totally wrong. I guess they just aren't picky about it though and I don't hold it against them that I am.
