Geological science has recently shown that Madagascar was separated from Africa before lemurs evolved. It is thought that more than 40 million years ago, some ancestors of modern lemurs were carried out to sea on islands of floating vegetation & ended up on Madagascar

Lemurs actually evolved when Madagascar broke off from the rest of Africa. (It used to be attached.) Off the top of my head, I can't tell you how long ago that was. So, they didn't actually "arrive" there. They originated there- evolved from primates on the mainland of Africa.
