The Marlins could never afford the balance of A-Rod's contract. They don't draw enough fans to justify a major payroll. I don't even think the Marlins will be playing in Miami much longer. They just don't have the support. Even with two world series titles, (1997, 2003) the fan base is way too small. Sooner or later the Yankees always end up getting who they want. That's just the way it is.

Well it would be a good trade for the Yankees, but Sheffield is a free agent, and why would the Marlins take on A-Rods salary if they are going on the cheap?
The Yanks could get Crybaby Cabrera and the D-Train for Cano, Wang and Hughes, but not for high priced players.

These guys are right. You don't trade players cuz it's fun, it's for a reason. The Marlins can't afford half of either of their contracts! A-Rod and Sheffield would never ever ever go to Florida.

The Marlins get rid of their players because they can't afford them. (Craig S, who replied earlier, is exactly right).
Also, who the heck wants Gary Sheffield? He's overpaid, a headache in the clubhouse everywhere but NY, and getting old.
I can only assume this is coming from a Yankee fan, who of course, would love to get two of the best young players in the game for two completely overpaid players - one of whom is a headcase and one of whom is on his way to retirement.
This is completely unrealistic.
A more realistic trade, if you want to go up that avenue, is:
A-Rod, Cano, Philip Humber, and a good chunk of A-Rod's due money for Cabrera and Willis.
Oh, and I forgot to add, A-Rod can veto any trade. Do you really think he is going to want to go to a team in a small market (thus lose millions in advertising dollars) and to a team that has proven over and over again that they are not willing, or perhaps able, to pay good players the money they deserve?

I think you're missing the point here.
The Marlins "get rid" of their stars because they can't afford their contracts. Willis and Cabrera are likely due hefty raises through arbitration, but if they were to trade them, it wouldn't be for a guy making $20m a year and Sheffield, who makes $13m per season.
The Marlins remain competitive by trading high-priced talent for promising kids. There's no way they'd be stupid enough to do a deal like this, even if they could afford it.

No!
We'll be keeping A-Rod!
As for Sheffield ... I think he would be a good trade for Dontrelle Willis.
But, we're keeping A-Rod!!

Yeah but Alex would never agree to the deal. As far as Sheffield he's gonna be a free agent so he can go wherever. I like D-Train but Cabrerra is a head case.

Doesn't matter, the Deeetroit Tigers EMPHATICALLY proved that you can buy a good team... Steinbrener should pick lesser paid players that are more hungry.. not the over-paid, WAY Over rated ones...
