Im a physician making $200,000 a yr. I hate it. I want try to get into advertising. I'll probably have to start at $32,000 and in 10 yrs could be making about $65,000. If Im good at it I could make up to $90,000 and maybe even six-figure. Should I switch. I know advertising is much more volatile and less stable than medicine is, not to mention less pay, but I hate being a doctor. I was never really into science anyway ( My parents pushed me into this career).

Should I go for it or should I just be quiet and be happy where i am?

Looking at your other posts I would solve the sexual issues with your father first. You seem to have alot of personal issues so I find it highly unlikely you are a Doctor making 200,000 a year. Here is what I would tell a real person with this problem.

It is rare to find a career you truly love. If you make a good living at what you do and do it well I would say continue what your doing and test the advertising field on a part time level. Who knows maybe that isnt as glamourous as you thought. If you had to hate what yout doing it is better to hate the 1 that pays six figures a year. Worse case scenario you put in 10 years save a bunch of money and then do or go wherever life takes you. Find financial security then go live your dream. People change constantly and maybe youll find something in your field that challenges you and gives you purpose otherwise I would advice working out any personal problems and then deal with the career ones.

My recommendation would be to stay for now but cut back hours if you can. Use that time to go back to school (UGH! I know) and take some courses relating to advertising. That way you can pay for the classes while making the GOOD money. I would also take this time to start socking away extra in savings for down the road. You could always try working as a doctor part time or as a volunteer after you change careers - that way you could keep current and always have medicine to fall back on in a pinch. Some fod for thought. Good Luck Doc.

If it were me, and I spent almost a decade learning a trade such as medicine, I would at least stick with it for a while. work as a doctor for like 5 to 7 years, get yourself a little nest egg to fall back on, be able to live comfortably. Then after you have built up a little savings then go pursue what you are more passionate about.

Can you live without your toys? Your high life? Without the knowledge that right now you are doing something to really help people. The world is going to get worse and prices are going to get higher. Can you really afford it? I have never heard of anyone other than an idiot throw away all they have worked for when the rewards start coming in to follow some lower life style.
So, enough of the soap box already, smile.

i imagine you need to do what your heart needs. in case you favor to attempt some thing else that you're fascinated in, I say bypass for it. you mustn't do some thing that you do not elect to do. i understand the stress too. My father develop right into a generic practitioner, and my mom develop right into a homemaker, and both one among them develop into hoping i might want to develop right into a generic practitioner. I opted for a promotion and marketing/generic corporation important in commerce rather. i develop right into a strong technology pupil, yet no longer a unprecedented one. the competition for the clinical college seats the position I stay is giant. 75-80% of the applicants do not get in, so that you word what i develop into up hostile to. when you're unhappy being a generic practitioner, through all skill bypass for some thing else. when you're chuffed with what you're doing, then stay with it. finally your disappointment will be pondered on your artwork in some unspecified time sooner or later. you do not elect to jeopardize the well being of your sufferers, do you? that could want to ensue because of your disappointment. drugs will be a unprecedented occupation determination, or a awful one, searching on the fellow. There are some very awful docs the position I stay, who do little for the money they obtain. they must be ashamed to be referred to as docs. money whores is better equipped to them.

Always go for what you love.

Having passion in your job will send you up through the ranks faster than being a mediocre doctor and being miserable your whole life.

Money is not worth misery.

Don't let your parents pressure in something they want you to become.

Use your head, be a leader not a follower.

Get a job that you enjoy doing.
