Try that link and see about getting that book (below). Its really great on help. It gives tips on Make up for your age and the same problems you'll run into, (braces, skin problems).

Also steer clear of any cake make up or oil based foundations. Go ask the lady behind the counter for the correct shade of foundation as well. I do know that the cover girl makes an all in one foundation compact i love. Its in a blue compact and its a powder and foundation in one. For a beginner its the best.
Try for natural bronzes, pale pinks, maybe a Gray or pale brown. Nothing trashy. Put it this way. If you wouldn't wear a shirt that color don't put it on your eye. Go with natural shades of gloss for your lips. Never apply red near you eyes and lip liner is used sparingly and make it as close to the color of your lipstick as possible.
Al-may now has kits you can buy for you coloring. Its all in one (eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, lip colors). Get that first if you are unsure of color. It also has application tips for each.
Try to stay away from too many coats of eyeliner and mascara in the day time. And leave your eyebrows alone unless you go to the professional waxiest first. Put the tweezers down.
Stay natural in the daytime. You can spice it up at night. The key to make up is to make is look natural.

Good luck.

Okay :) Let's being on a basic starter course: as you probably already know; less is more. Certain colours are all around idiot proof and look good on everyone... eyeshadow: taupe, gold, plum, eggplant blush and lipstick: coral Don't wear foundation all over the face. Even people with blemishes don't need to do that. It actually backfires and usually highlights blemishes. Unless you are a pro, stick to a mineral powder (or reg. powder) and liquid or cream concealer if you breakout or have discoloration. If you want an easy, pretty, QUICK and inexpensive daily makeup: conceal any blemishes. Powder any shine. Try a white shimmery (not sparkly!) eyeshadow under the brow bone and in the inner corner and just blend it a little. Smile and apply blush on the apply of your cheeks focussing there adn then blending out twoards temple/hairline.When it comes to blush, brighter is better, less is more. Since you're tan, you may want to try some kind of illuminator or LIGHT bronzer (to add glow, not darkness) instead of blush. One coat of mascara. If you are extremely fair, go with brow mascara. I like L'oreal voluminous or Meybelline Define A Lash. Very easy application Finish with a gloss or lipstick. If you have a hard time with lipcolours get something close to your natural colour, just a little warmer. Good Luck! :)

You want to protect your skin with a good under coat. I use aloe that I put tea tree oil and vitamin e oil in. This works very well and keeps your skin soft. Use a foundation that is sheer. Use it very sparingly. Neutrogena makes a brush on powder that adds color without any real makeup.
Almay is great because it is designed to not irritate your skin. If you want to try something more expensive, Clinique (sold at department stores) is very good and they have people there who can help you.

If you use eye makeup, start with mascara only first. then you might want to graduate to eye liner pencil in some natural (gray, taupe, rose) color. Go light again.

The more natural you can get your makeup to look, the better it will be.

Always remember that less is more! The natural look is the best. You most definately need a good moisturizer (preferably with SPF), a concealor, mascara (try Lash Exact by Covergirl), a neutral shadow that looks good with your skin tone and a lighter color shadow to place under your eyebrows to open your eyes up. I wouldn't start off right away with foundation untill you get used to it, untill then just cover your skin with a pressed powder. Make sure you blend your concealor before you apply the powder. I would also advise you get a nice pretty pink blush. Good luck and sorry I couldn't help you more! By the way go to the nearest drugstore and ask one of the beauty technitions to help you match up your colours.

You need to find out if your skin is oily or dry. Then you can choose a good foundation. Try to make sure you get good quality brushes and sponges. Keep them clean so you don't break out. Clinique has good make up. Go to a counter and just start out with a light foundation and an everyday gloss or lipstick. Don't buy everything they try to sell you because you need practice. You don't want to waste money!

I would go to Clinque counter at any department store, there you can get products for skin care, that's the base of all good makeup..your skin.

The girl at the counter should be able to help you pick some nice neural colors to start you out with. They should also give you some make-up tricks.

Makeup should enhance....not overshadow. Go light....think...netuals

If you don't mind, go to Norstroms, Macys, Sephora, or Ulta and get some makeup tips from them. Since this is kinda new to you, I'd stay away from Lancome and Chanel. Maybe Clinique or Stila or MAC is good.

Cream to powder base (comes in a compact), blush, mascara, and lip gloss. This is all you need to get started!

Take it from a guy. Less is more ! Believe it or not, we do notice the little things. We just don't talk about it much.
