Find out if they have a registry. You can always check different stores web-sites and type in the name(s) of the mother or father to be.

If they aren't registered anywhere, then I suggest gift cards. Baby girls always get way too many clothes. My husband and I returned about $400 worth of clothes, and we still ended up with too many. There are always things that you forget to register for, so it's nice to have a gift card to go and purchase things you find you need later on. I know it sounds impersonal, but it will be well appreciated.

For me I always do a basket up for baby showers......I've been to about 30 baby showers.........

And even tho the couple is registered somewhere I go and get the useful stuff and put it into a basket or a clothes hamper (a small round one which they can use for the baby's clothes) And buy diapers (size 1), wash clothes, receiving blankkets, wipes, Dove baby wash, bath towel, onesies (or diaper shirts....look like undershirts that have buttons at the bottom)
these are things I know they will use......and I like it better becuz when people register for their babies.....half the time they don't know what they really want or need and end up not using the gifts.
This is a sure fire way you know your money was spent well.
And baskets add up.....you don't think they do but they do.

Hope that helps!

Buy them a Boppy, one with the removable covers...they are wonderful.

Don't buy them bottles, breastfed babies won't need them for a while and bottle fed babies can be particular about the nipples they use...it might be a waste of money.

Diapers are always nice, but make sure you know what kind they will want to use, I hate certain name brand diapers.

A cute outfit, a bath towel, a floor gym (the kind the baby lays on and can watch all the things hanging from the cross bars above)
Find out the theme of the nursury and buy something that corrisponds, a nice soft comfy blanket, rattles, a memory box is always nice...something the size of a briefcase, the parents can put all the things from the hospital in it and all the cards from the birth and the shower.
Some bath and body works for the mom is a really nice little extra for her.

I loved getting clothes for my baby showers.

Avoid new born clothes though. They grow out of it soo fast.
Buy cute outfits for one year olds to 18 months! They will wear it longer and they have a better selection! You will also look smart for thinking ahead! lol

Other great gift ideas are baby hangers! You can never have too many of those!

Try to stay with useful gifts that will last a while.

I would stay away from baby bottles. I personally was very picky with the type of bottle I finally decided to use on my daughter. I got a few bottles at my shower and never used them.

Baby nursery books are also great. One that comes to mind is "The Tail of Peter Rabbit". That one is a classic and is so well done! Or "Love You Forever" by Robert Munch. A very heart felt story.

Hope this helps!

A meaningful gift, such as a photo album, also mom's to be ALWAYS love diapers in a size 1 not newborn, cuz some babies are born large, and bottles, and bibs. Think of things the parents will NEED, and purchase those, or go to a baby photo place and get a gift certificate so they can show off there new baby when he/she arrives!

if your thinking clothes but clothes for when the baby is older like 12m or 18m cause when you have a baby your loaded down with so many clothes the baby cant possiblly wear them all. Maybe try a diaper cake just look online its really esay to make and you can never have too many diapers. Gift cards are also great cause then mommy can buy exactly what she wants the baby to have. And dont forget about mommy maybe a nice bath basket just for mom. often moms get left out or a nice comfortable outfit for mom

What I always needed were receiving blankets, bibs most of all as he got a bit older, but bottles and diapers, they are more in likely going to get diaper and cothes for a newborn so if you get that make sure it isnt for newborn but a little bit older cause newbors grow out of newborn diapers pretty fast I know I had like two full bags of diapers left that were newborn from my shower. Or you could do something cute like my mother in law did she made me a diaper cake 3 teired and put baby duck, baby rags booties small baby items around the cake and wrapped it in a seethrough sheer thing, this website below will show you what one looks like and give you instructions on how to make one, she will love it.

Go to www.pampers.com
Get them a gift of diapers. Thru the site, the family would recieve gift checks to take to the store and pick out the diapers themselves. This way they can get the size and fit that will be appropriate for the child. You can buy a one month supply all the way up to a 1 year supply.

Anything for a baby would be a general good idea. The main 3 that I personally would give (and have given) are clothing for newborns up to about 6 months because they will grow into it, diapers because parents will need a lot of them, and blankets or little pacifers or toys for when the baby needs them. You can find this stuff pratically anywhere.

Take a look at their registry and pick something out. They're the ones who wanted it. Make sure you give them a gift reciept. I just had a baby shower and got 75 pairs of socks with no gift reciepts. I had to travel all around town trying to figure out where they came from and do no reciept returns (of which you have a limited amount per year at each store). Everyone else will buy her clothes. Get something practical like a diaper bag filled with diapers, desitin, burp rags, and bottles (my favorites are Avent).
