Amd Sempron needs a motherboard with the 754 socket while athlon needs the AM2 socket or A socket. Your motherboard is compatible with only 1 type of socket so u can't use a Socket 754 type processor on a motherboard compatible with Socket A processors. Mentioning the type of pc doesn't help, tell us the brand of your motherboard and type if u know....

based on the model you provided, it appears that your system includes a Socket A ( Socket 462 ) processor on a A7V8Z-LA asus motherboard which can presumably be updated to an Athlon XP 3000+ (not the 64 version but the regular "socket A")
but is very likely that a bios flash/update will be required (to version 3.15)

That depends on the type "socket" that you have on your mobo. Check with the manufacturer's web site to see which processors it will support. If it's a "socket A", good luck on not spending too much $$. Athlon XP processors are EXPENSIVE!! You could get a decent dual-core processor for the same $$. The new M.S. O.S. your referring to is "Vista" not "Vanguard".

i'm afraid your mom board is a Socket A and does no longer cope with the extra moderen AM2, AM2+, or AM3 CPU's Abit went out of the mummy board corporation somewhat some years in the past. you would be extra beneficial served by way of only getting a sparkling device yours is fairly out dated.

CPU work along you Motherboard.
Your current Motherboard support SoloCPU not DualCPU.
for upgrading to new CPU you can olny concern about the speed of them, like if current CPU is 1.7 MHz you can go by 2.4 MHz.

" Also AMD mother board work only by AMD proccessor, Not Intel. Motherboards are 64bit and 32bit. so be careful about that if you have 32bit motherboard don't go by 64bit."
