Well, all terms in the HoR are two years, as mandated by the constitution (see source).

As for average lifespan in the house? It's probably close to four years.

House Members are elected for two year terms. I'm not sure what the average tenure is, but Mr. Dingell has been serving in the House the longest, at over 50 years. My guess for the average tenure would be around 10-12 years (5-6 terms).

If you wanted to do some legwork, go to www.house.gov, check out each Member's website, write down how long he/she has been in the House, add up how long they've ALL been in the House, and divide by 435 (440, if you include the delegates and the resident commissioner) to get the average tenure.

Did you try www.house.gov?

And they have 2 yr terms Jaread, that's not what the poster asked. I think I read the average was 10 years.

Congressmen and women have 4 year terms,
Senators have 6 yeear terms.
