There is a big debate regarding the Modular VS. The full face helmets. Mostly surrounding the Snell certification that you can find on some but won't on a Modular. I would find the helmet that fits you the best and feels comfortable. And recommend a full face, either Modular or Standard. Don't go for a brain bucket as those don't provide you any protection for your jaw or face and you eat bugs o' plenty without the shield. So unless you need the extra protein...go for the full face.

DOT does not test or approve helmets. The maker certifies the helmet meets DOT standards. You can buy "DOT" stickers if all you want is to avoid hassles with the man. I ride without a helmet even in states that require them personally.

if you want a dot approved lid it will be big and bulky. or just do what fast said and get a dot sticker for the helmet you like. my contention is anytime you fall off a bike, with or without a helmet, you run the risk of bruising the melon.

Contrary to popular belief a DOT approved helmet does not have to be big and bulky,You can buy a carbon fiber helmet that is thin, comfortable, and DOT approved.

Do not buy a helmet online! You need to be able to test it to make sure it's a good fit to your head. My advice is to look at local motorcycle dealers and equipment shops.

I suggest you reconsider full face. Injuries to your jaw and teeth are serious bad news. Painful, disfiguring, causes problems eating, expensive.
