At the time of its theater release, I was 11 or 12, and it scared me a little.
The next summer, my family took a trip to Florida, and while I was swimming in the ocean at Ft. Lauderdale, I felt a tug on my left leg. I almost crapped my bathing suit as I was convinced I'd been bitten by a shark.
I lifted my leg out of the water and there was a long deep scratch on the side of my right shin - I was still convinced it had been a shark that scratched my leg with one of its teeth. I was bleeding, and I remember swimming as fast as I could back to shore while trying to hold my right leg up out of the water so if any sharks were in the vicinity, they wouldn't "smell" my blood.
I still have a slight scar on my leg, but my fear is long departed.

Oh Holy Cow!!! That movie scared me to pieces the first time I saw it in the theater!!! Even now, I love watching it & will sit through it waiting for my favorite scenes & lines!! Shoot, we even talk in movie quotes at my house, & believe me, Jaws gets quoted a lot! I think my all time favorite line from it is "I used to hate the water." (brody) "I can't imagine why!" (hooper) lol
Awesome film, Spielberg at his very best!!

Every since I saw that movie as a kid, I'm afraid of sharks. I live near the beach in Florida, but I don't get in the water.

The whole thing was to unbelievable to be the least bit scary. I still get a little wary while swimming in the ocean though.

That was the first scary movie I was allowed to see, and I had to sleep with my knees drawed up around my ears because I just knew that shark was under the covers with me. Now, its just boring, but the video game is pretty cool.

I was 7 years old when it first came out. It scared the day lights out of me. I refused to go into the ocean after that.

It made me beat the s***t out of my goldfish just to make sure they didn't get any funny ideas. Their tank is right by the TV and I know they were takin' it all in when I wasn't looking. Nothing worse than killer fish propoganda !

i watched it when i was a kid and it scared the crap out of me. especially the 3rd movie when they were on this boat or something and a woman gets eaten alive by the shark. i was like 8 years old that time when i watched it. it had a tremendous impact and i had a fear of sharks after watching that movie. but fast-forward to present -- when i watched the movie on TV...
God, it was so boring.
