why did they create something you have to type on to talk when the telephone already existed lol

You are assuming people asking Qs here genuinely lack the information.
Some people ask Qs they know the answer to so they can play gameshow host.
Some people ask Qs they know the answer to so they can see who has a shared interest.
Some people ask Qs instead of google because they prefer the interaction with people.
Some people ask Qs (like this one) that has been asked so many times before because they don't know how to search this site for the answer to their Q.
And yeah - some people are just too lame to figure out that there are other ways to get information.
