About twenty percent of regular condom users get pregnant within one year. You can improve your chances of not getting preg with a condom if you do the following:

* use a new condom if you have intercourse more than once in a session;

* use condoms with spermicide on them;

* check the expiration date on the condom to make sure its still good;

* use condoms in conjunction with spermicidal inserts for women, such as Encare (you can buy at CVS);

* have him hold on to the condom while he is withdrawing to make sure it doesn't fall off. look it over to see if there were leaks or holes or tears;

* don't use condoms that were stored in someone's wallet or pocket. the exposure to his body heat and wear and tear makes them more likely to break. keep them in the nightstand by the bed or in your purse;

and most importantly,
* put it on him BEFORE he gets inside you, and not a few minutes later, because pre-ejaculatory fluid has sperm in them;

* also, its a good idea to keep the emergency contraceptive/ Plan B pill on hand at your house just in case the condom breaks or leaks. take it right away if this should happen. My nephew is the result of the condom breaking, so it does happen.

If used correctly the condom would be about 97% effective leaving a 3% window for someone to get pregnant while using a condom.

I've seen in the condom boxes that they're 99% effective, the 1% is like for when the condom breaks or is not used right, After I had my daugther my husband used it and I didn't get pregnant for 3 years I mean it really works.

i don't know what the exact percentage is but i'm pretty sure it's not very high. the only way that could happen is if it tears or comes off. but i'm not gonna give you any advice on this one because i was stupid and didn't use them. that's why i'm now 34 weeks pregnant. lol.
