The media is ignoring the booming economy beacuse they are tools of the left.
However, I also thought unemployment was at its lowest in history, but Decmber 1999 it was 4.2%.
Mitch: the Clinton "surplus" was not a trillion dollars. There was a "paper" surplus of $267 million dollars because there wasn't the deficit that was planned on. Not spending money you don't have isn't the same as saving it. Besides, the government should not have a surplus, it is our money, not theirs. The government should not make a profit. If they don't spend it for what it is budgeted for I want the excess given back to me.
Lifehouse: the trade deficit halved... the federal deficit is still strong and growing. But the record tax revenues generated by the tax cuts has also halved the amount of deficit spending this year.

Marcus,
where are you getting your information?
How many trillions are we in debt now? (I stopped paying attention at 6 trillion due to simple disgust.)
How many multiple billions of $'s are we indebted to with China? Lord only knows....it's the only thing that's kept Social Security running for the last several years. Not to mention, even that will be done soon....they've predicted 3 years until it's extinct. It's been floating because they've been robbing from Medicare and Medicaid, and borrowed money from the Chinese government.
There are jobs? Interesting, how about you go move to Commonwealth states like Pennsylvania for a year and tell me that again? Well....let me rephrase that last statement. There are a lot of jobs there, but good luck finding anything above 23K/year without either 10 years of experience or an equivalent BA degree or higher.
So if you're too poor for school, or you didn't apply yourself in youth...you're S.O.L., period. That's why people are leaving states like NY and PA...there's nothing there that you can live on, especially if you have a family to care for.
Private businesses there rarely survive unless you cater to alcohol or low-moral behavior....or unless you cater to the elderly.
Again, that's why people are moving south and west at a rapid pace....that's where the industry and business-savvy environments are.
Yeah, unemployment may be down....but a decent job that will produce truly liveable income without having a BA or Masters....good luck. Unemployment may be down, but Americans still have some of the worst financial planning skills on the planet, so stress over money is up - way up.
As for the tech industry? There's nothing outside of the southern and western coastal states. Try saying that again if you spent some time in the northeast.
Now, as for Georgie increasing money on education? That's news to me. All he's done is create ridiculous programs like "no child left behind" and hasn't increased funding enough that it influences the poorer states like Louisiana or Alabama for example.....their public educational level is still well below par.
On military? On some levels, yeah he's increased funding for his war machine.....but there's still a lot that needs to be done there.

okay, now that you have pointed out that the DOW has rose (which is still not a high as it was when clinton was in there) and the trade deficit has been cut in half...what about the rest of the issues that hit us at home more directly. I must disagree with you, Bush has not increased spending in education, only the military.
This link should tell you some about unemployment as of July-September 06:

Mainstream news corporations cannot be trusted for EVERY little fact, you know. I find it hard to believe any more than the evening weather from them, because you always hear contradictions later...

Imagine if the Dow^^^ was fixed, the unemployment "rate" was wrong*** and our economy actually in a depression? Gosh would popping a happy pill make false statistics real?
Funny & sad how suddenly outsourcing, loss of industries, loss of health care, loss of ethics & violence are no longer being talked about. All hail King George...Caesar. Psst both Dems & Repubs are corrupt.
How to tell if statistics are false-gosh, just ask your neighbors...don't know about you but where I live, many guys (I wonder if this economy has hurt women as much?) have lost their CAREERS. There's an army of unemployed guys who will NEVER make the same salary again. They are lucky to make 50%.
Many are making $8-10 an hour when they used to make $25-30+. Americans have the shortest memory...we really are stupid bast*rds. We have an economic depression which only affects some Americans.
Heck why care about them when your tummy is full? Fifty million Americans remember how America used to be...free. What happened is brainwashing on both sides. Corporate America sicked Feminazis on the Americans to make this Hermerica+++ While we fight & disagree, America has gone bye bye...
Pequod's coffee for me. At least that is "real!"
"Brainwashing in aisle nine..."
^^^Dow is based on greed & is false accounting
to keep seniors investing.
***statistics can be "created" for any political or economic viewpoint

Your analysis of the Tech Industry is very accurate, but not in regards to its current expansion or hiring rate. We'll see what happens. You seem optimistic about it all. Lets hope the economy does swing back up. It has been a long, bad, dry six years. I'm tired of being broke all that time.

But Kerry said this was the worst economy since Herbert Hoover. Maybe he wasn't thinking about record low unemployment, or record high stock market ( it was not higher during the Clinton years) or record high home ownership, or the deficit cut in half years before expected. Hmm..wonder which economy he meant.

What?
Deficit cut in half? When we are supposed to be spending nearly a trillion dollars on the Pentagon? Where are you getting your sources?
Is it bad to fund Education? Oh, yeah...there is no funding for Education! Military spending has only increased, you got your facts are backward...

1. They say, they say, they say. They say a lot of things that aren't true. Repeat a lie often enough and it sticks.
2. I look at the results. Where's the Trillion dollar surplus that Clinton left the people? Who spent it? Can Bush boast a Trillion dollar surplus? NO. Reality.
Good luck and warm wishes.

President Bush's plan is working. Did you expect it to fail only because it's a Republican's plan?
