first off...how old are you??? cuz your age has alot to do with whether or not you are going to be able to do these things and the steps you have to take to accomplish them...if your young you shouldnt have too much trouble...if your older your gonna have to stretch ALOT...if your not flexible your not gonna be able to do them and you could hurt yourself trying....the best time to learn those things really are when you are a little child...I would suggest going to a gymnastics instructor...thats the only way you will be safe because learning gymnastics is kinda dangerous in and of itself and you can get hurt really easy...but if you have someone spotting you they will catch you if you fall and they will make sure you use the right technique that wont hurt you.
If you wanna do backbends you can do that yourself...you just lay on your back, put your hands down next to your ears flat and try to push yourself up....after doing a bunch though make sure that you hold your knees up to your chest and you roll a little so you don't hurt your back.
Cartwheels you just have to push off of your legs harder, and you have to learn balance....balance is REAL important in anything you do gymnastics related.
Don't even try flips by yourself...you need to have extreamly strong thighs and calves to be able to jump high enough to make it all the way around and you have to know where you are at all times when you are flipping so you don't come down on your head.

u shouldnt be scared, if u go to the right place to learn how to do it then u shouldnt get hurt or break anything
i can do cartwheels and backbends but i get really dizzy
and also just try your best and the teacher should help u until u get it. at first it will be hard and the next day u will probably be sore but it is worth it after u get to learn how to do a in the air back flip

Hi C.W.
first of all, i was just in your shoes a few short months ago. i am a 25 year old woman that just learned how to do a cartwheel correctly and how to do a backbend. the whole problem was my fear. i let it hold me back too long. i've been dancing for a long time, and just came to the realization this summer that i should pursue a career in it. it's my passion and i was afraid of failing. you can't do that to yourself. trust me, fear is just a large waste of time.
now when i learned how to do a cartwheel, i had a friend of mine that's a former college cheerleader to help me. she was very patient and just kept making me do it over and over. what made the experience different from any other time that people were trying to teach me was MY desire to learn it. i just let go and did it over and over. i have this new found motivation and new attitude that i can do all things! try getting with someone that can help you with what these moves are suppose to feel like as you're doing them. then let go of all of your fears and just do it. (thanks nike) good luck! and remember that fear is a huge road block!

have someone spot you. If theres a will theres a way. or just do it on your bed or pillows. When I learned to do a backbend, I worked on my muscles, its all in the butt hun. DO THIS:
First stand facing a wall... literally like you could kiss it, then, start bending backwards and landing.
One foot at a time walk up the wall and flip over, this will slowly build your muscles to make it easier, it'll take time, but you'll become less scared and stronger.

As with everything, practice makes perfect. If you are afraid that you will hurt yourself then don't do it. The way to over come your fear is to do it properly. Meaning, stretch out first, make sure that you have a spotter to help you keep your balance and to help you avoid injury. Third, picture yourself doing the acrobat instead of picturing yourself getting hurt. I am 44 years old and I can still do all of those things and if anyone should be afraid of hurting their selves it should be me, but I'm not.

Use a thick mat to land on, in case you miss! Joining gymnastics would probably help you a lot because the instructers would "walk" you through the stunts, so that you are not going at it alone, until you are comfortable and confident with it. Sounds fun!

I know how you feel exactly. I'm also learing to do cartwheels and flips. My coach always says that I should have strong arms and I should always remain tight. It's okay to feel fear, as long as it does not take over. Have confidence and PRACTICE!!! It's the only way.
