In the words of Satyajit Ray,

"Brishti Bheja Maatir gondho, purono boi r sonda gondha, maya Farasi r sera paarfum e ei duti r judi nei" (Bengali)

The smell of the soil after the first rain and the musty smell of old books, no perfume however great can compare with them.

but, it hasn't happened yet here in SEATTLE! We have had record dry weather this past summer- near drought conditions! So much for our wet weather stereotype. though it is supposed to get wet this weekend. sigh.
