k I doubt you'll be able to help but anyway. I woke up yesterday morning and my computer wouldn't connect to the internet (I have a wireless card and a wireless network, it usually is always connected). I've tryed restoring it but of course that didn't work.

The thing is, my computer DETECTS the wireless network, but when I click Connect, it says it's doing it, but it never connects.

so it reads the wireless network, it just won't connect to it. and I have no idea what's wrong with it.

any ideas?

This may not be the answer to end all answers but it may help.
The first thing you need to do is determine if your network is still online. If you dont know already you do this by checking the lights on your cable/ISDN Modem. Make sure then network lite is lit up. Next you unplug your modem and your wireless network hub. Wait for a few seconds and then plug them back in. Once that is done you'll need to wait at least 2 min for you modem and your wireless hub to re-initalize. Allot of the time if your modem and your wirless modem are left on for long periods errors will ocur and reseting them will help them sort everthing out. Next re-boot your computer and check for wireless networks. Double click yoru wireless network like you normaly do. Make sure you have a strong signal. If all has went well you should be re-connected and able to surf the internet again. If not I recomend you call your internet service provider. HAve fun and good luck.

I have this same problem a lot. Usually I start disabling the wireless network and than enabling it again.

If that doesn't work you should check the advanced settings for your wireless network, if you know how to work with those options. Look at the properties for your wireless network and the ones for your internet protocol(TCP/IP). Sometimes you just need to check or uncheck something within the properties.

Another possibilty is that you have incorrect drivers. Have this problem right now, my dad installed the drivers for the wireless network at home, but now my laptop won't find the network at school anymore. Maybe you have the wrong ones or they just need to be updated.

Hope this helps, usually works for me, except for at school right now that is. But most of the time, that should help.

Some thoughts....
1. It could be your windows firewall that is not set up to allow your isp to enter... Including any virus protections if they have firewalls. (Check firewall settings...)
2. Check with your isp as they may be having troubles.
3. And if there are other online services that connect to the internet at the same time you start your puter, may prevent you from connecting to your isp. Such as .. automatic windows update, webshots, weather alerts, etc.
4. As a last resort try a system restore...

I seemed to have solved my problem of not connecting with third idea . I just disabled all my start up connections. So now I just turn them on manually. Good Luck. I hope this helps some...

I used to live in your nightmare. I had a Linksys wireless that would do that to me all the time. I would uninstall and reinstall. I would reinstall and go through the whole broadcast thing...reset....reset...and then I said to heck with it and hard wire into the router now. Sometimes what I did worked, sometimes it didn't. Sometimes I changed which USB port I plugged into. I don't have an answer for you, just empathy...

You probably have a virus on your computer and your computer is being used as a attackbot at night while you sleep, your network may have shut you off because of this. Use hijackthis to clean computer and log on. It is free software get it at computergeeks.com

you could start your modem again. smtimes they just act strange.. but yes, if it is security-enabled and you know you assigned a wep key check that out (esp it gives a limited or no connection signal).. or another possibility.. your net subscription might be over. why don't you try it with an ethernet cable to see if it works that way?
ps: i have a linksys, and it happens smtimes :)

is it your own wireless router? cause if it is, maybe you need to turn it off, and back on again... and if that doesn't work, reset the router to its default settings.
