I have wall-to-wall beige carpet, and it was new when I moved in. I started a shoes-off rule, and it still looks new three years later. I walk around in my white socks all day everyday, and the bottoms stay clean because no dirt or mud has been tracked in the house. It's a good rule.

Not usually. But, if they are covered with mud that is a different story. We have what people call red mud and it will not come out of carpets without a lot of hard work.

Yes, cause when I first got my house, it had all NEW carpeting.
It's been 4 years, so now it's just habit (which is cool, cause my carpeting still looks new in each room!)

I live in the Netherlands and it is standard practice mostly for men to remove their shoes. It is optional for women to do so. I live in the Westlands area of Holland and a lot of the men work building the greenhouses so believe me you do not want them walking on your floors after work!

I do because I don't have carpet! LOL! It's bad enough that I have to sweep the floor everyday, but if I had to mop it everyday too I'd be ticked! Plus, I don't want to have to sweep more than once.

Yes I do. I have white carpet throughout. Most people I don't have to ask they just do it. I have to admit I am a neat freak :)
