You can take him to court yourself at small claims. Hopefully the judge will issue an order for him to fix it. If he doesn't then I believe he can be held criminally. You can also contact the police dept there they should be able to direct you to the right people to complain to.

Keep in mind once you do all of this he will probably evict you. Maybe think about going to live with your gram until you can get enough money to find another place.

It's called Unfit Living Conditions to have residential rental property without hot water or heat.

PLEASE click the link on the first answer!!! Don't let your landlord get away with this!

you need to contact the department of housing in your area or local housing authority. find out what the rental laws are in your area. many (especially northern) states require that an apartment has heat.

i know this is random but i didn't know how to find my housing authority when i had a bad landlord once, and i called the local united way - they not only helped me find it but also helped me to stand up to my landlord. they're so nice.

good luck.

what a jerk!!!!
okay hun this is what you want to do. confront him about the problems and document everything ( when you went, what you said, his response, etc...). if this isnt enough then call your local firms for free advice. ive done this many times and it has helped everytime. the on top of that call the better business bureau and report this to them. if anyone ever calls them for a reference to your landlord he will be screwed. dont let him do this to you! its inhumane!
