Rule of thumb multiply your tire size by .12 so you'll need 4.27 gears. I doubt that's what's in there now. Your owners manual should say or the dealer can tell you. Check the website below to for more help.

most Chevy 1/2 ton pickups from 1988 on come with 3.42 gear ratios, at least in the automatics. If you check the option codes on the inside of your glovebox, and give your local dealership a call, they can give you the complete list of options for the codes listed, including the rear end ratio. They also come with 235/75r16 tires stock. Common rule of thumb is 65 mph at 2200 rpm for optimum performance, so assuming that you have the 3.42 gear ratio, i would suggest 4.10 gears for the closest to stock gear setup.

Most chevy trucks come with a 3.73 or a 4.11. I have been told that the manufacturer usually designs the truck for bigger tires because so many people in their ignorance will bolt on something bigger without considering the other factors. I am sure that you could get away with 35's on the stock axle but it isnt adviseable.
