When Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty (brokered by the US) in the 70's, part of the agreement was that the US would, every year, send big chunks to Israel AND an almost equivalent amount to Egypt. We have done so ever since.
In addition, Israel has been a reliable ally in every mid-east question.
In further addition, I think (but I cannot corroborate) that at Iraq War I, G.H.W Bush wanted Israel on the sidelines, and offered money and other aid.
