The question is: How many of you are aware of the bill that has passed in French Parliament and what is your opinion of limiting the freedom of expression.

Turkey has a weird law that makes it criminal to "speak against Turkey" and that includes comments about the Armenian and Kurdish genocide campaigns of 1915, unless you say they didn't happen.

So, one of France's legislative chambers proposed a law that says it is a crime to say those genocides didn't occur. The Turkish man who just won the Nobel Prize in literature, Orhan Pamuk, was jailed earlier this year for mentioning the genocides in one of his novels.

The people of France know better and I suspect that the Senate, the other house of France's legislature, will have the sense to let this silly bill die.

it is really interesting that people are pretty sure that turkey did this genocide. thats probably the success of the armenian propaganda in europe. i think the historians must be the ones to discuss this subject and armenian historians have been refusing many invitations to discuss this subject in official platforms with turkish historians. i wonder why. it is true that nationalism is big in turkey but that just doesnt mean turkish people are lying on this subject. the truth should be revealed by exploring historical archives.

france is doing anything to keep turkey away from eu. they have always supported armenians in this subject. they just dont want a muslim country in the eu. however i wasnt expecting them to make such a law. france was the defender of expression freedom but now they are going past in time with this law. thats really weird.

it is time for the turkish people to face up to what they did. however putting a limit on what people can and can't express is a dangerous line that the french government is crossing. france is known for its freedom of expression, they have history of great artist and writers, things in france are already volitile already, they've had several riots, its like dousing a fire with gasoline, its dangerous.

Hi, I am french.

In a way, i think it's time to Turkey to face is past, but i don't think that this kind of law will solve anything.
few years ago our parlement vote a law to recognize the armenian genocide, and i think this law is enough. the new law will reduce the freedom of speech.
france is the country of voltaire who said:
"i don't agree with you, but i will fight so that you can express your point of view"

Both sides of any argument should always be allowed to speak. Anything less is tyranny. Implausible denials and lack of facts will speak for themselves, they don't need to be banned.
